Reinier Selen
Founding Rinkel Film in 1997, Reinier produced his first film THE BICYCLE and subsequently developed and produced VAN GOD LOS, a crime thriller, establishing a new landmark on the local market. The film was based on a true story set in Selens home town and garnered numerous awards internationally. It was among the best performing national features of that year and marked the start for Rinkel Film as an independent production company.
Perhaps it’s Selens background as a documentary filmmaker which attracts him to stories that really matter.
Whether it’s serious fiction – such as early adolescents dealing with one of their classmates suffering from cancer (COOL KIDS DON’T CRY, having been remade twice) or the existential bonding of two loners (NOTHING PERSONAL); teenagers caught up in the dark web (SILK ROAD), or the Oscar-shortlisted legal drama ACCUSED); Rinkel’s cinematic stories will always have a relevance, often rooted in reality.
Reinier is a 2005 Binger FilmLab and EAVE graduate. In 2010 he attended the Producers Lab Toronto programme, as the first Dutch participant. That same year he became an EFA member. In 2014, Working Title founder Tim Bevan handed Reinier his diploma for graduating from the Inside Pictures programme.
Rinkel Film is a member of the Netherlands Content Producers Association (NCP). He regularly coaches upcoming producers in the Erich Pommer Institute and filmmakers for Cinesud NL.
Since 2019 he is acting as board member of the European Producers Club.
